A travelling circus falls on hard times in England, and goes to Spain to try its luck there. This is the story of circus, its owner, and the various members of the circus, both human and animal.

This is a very moving story about the plight of the circus when they appear to be abandoned in a drought in the middle of Spain. One of his better books, in my opinion.
